Autism Awareness Month

We talked to Gary from POAC. They provide training programs for police and 1st responders, training in the schools, family events, support, and much more!

We talked to Rob Gorski who has an autism daddy blog. We also talked to Emily kreifels from Autism Speaks South Jersey.

We were joined by 8th grader Jessica Levy who started a special needs talent show. We were also joined by Debra Wallace-Forman from Autism Cares.

Varleisha Gibbs Assistant Professor Department of Occupational Therapy University of the Sciences. She gave tips about traveling for holiday dinner with a special needs child/adult. I have reviewed her show again and passed along some

of her tips for Easter dinner or Passover Seders..

National Siblings Day

We had a stack of questions for the siblings. We had a cookie tray from the ARC of Gloucester County. The Sibling Forum went well for those who are siblings of a special needs family member.

Early Intervention

It is early intervention week and we talked to Jen Bush who heads one of the early intervention groups, and is also my daughter’s former early intervention teacher. Jen provides amazing insight.

Deaf Awareness

We talked to a representative from Burlington county special services regarding their deaf/hard if hearing programs. we also talked to Bridge player theater group about their performances for blind/low vision, hearing impaired, and

their autism friendly performances.

We spoke to Kim Norton. Her son Henry has Usher Syndrome Type 1. She founded Help Henry See and Hear. They provide several areas of support to those with a sensory impairment.

We spoke to special needs life coach Lisa Bernardo. And we were given tips on summer travel to amusement parks with Jeremy Hunsicker.

Helen-Keller Deaf-Blind Awareness Week

It is Helen Keller deaf-blindness awareness week and we talked to Jim Kelly. An amazing, inspiring man, who also does great impersonations. It’s an interview you don’t want to miss. We will also be talking to Lieutenant Brendan

National Therapeutic Recreation Week

We talked about therapy dogs and how they have been integrated into special needs programs in the school systems. We have representatives from Deptford and Kingsway School districts on the air as well.

Learning Ally’s YES! Program

YES! Program is an in-person program that pairs younger students with learning differences with an older student who is trained to help guide them through a series of goals. The purpose of YES! is to train students with learning

differences to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, to help them build confidence and to provide them with the tools to become strong self-advocates. Each student is assigned a Youth Ambassador who will monitor member progress, act

as a resource and provide guidance.
